     The Physical Education Program is designed to give all individuals the opportunity to develop social, mental, and physical skills.  Components such as sportsmanship, leadership, experiences, fundamental skills, an appreciation of ftiness and good health practices are stressed.  The Physical Education curriculum is composedf of both competitve and recreational sports which are designed to challenge students of all skill levels.  Team and individual activities are provided to all grades with the emphasis on skill development in grades nine and ten

REQUIREMENTS

 

In order to satisfy graduation requirements, students must take and pass three semesters of Physical Education.

 

Freshman

Two 84 minute periods each week, for one semester.  Tuesday and Thursday

 

Sophomores

Three 84 minute periods each week, for one semester.  Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

 

Juniors and Seniors

Five 84 minute periods each week, for one semester.  Senior Phyiscal Education is an elective.

         ATTENDANCE

 

Students are expected to attend Physical Education class on a regular basis.


In accordance with the Southwick-Tolland Regional High School Attendance policy, juniors and seniors who are absent eleven or more days in a semester will receive a loss of credit.  Sophomores who are absent six or more times in a semester will recieve a loss of credit.  Freshman who are absent five or more times in a semester will receive a loss of credit.


Students that have excused absences will be allowed to make up their classes that they miss.  It is the responsibility of the student to make arraignments with the teacher.

                                                                      


                                                                        ASSESSMENT

 

  • Students will be assesed on a daily attendance, preparation, conduct, effort, personal and social responsibility. 
  • After each unit concludes, students will be assessed with a written quiz.
  • At the conclusion of the semester students will complete a written final exam and perform a physical fitness test.
  • Freshman who are unprepared for class three times in one term will automatically fail the term.
  • Sophomores who are unprepared for class four times in one term will automatically fail the term.
  • Juniors and seniors who are unprepared for class five times in one term will automatically fail the term.

****When a student does not change for class they can not make that class up.

 

****Any excused absence can be made up.  Make ups will be made by appointment and consist of doing a mile jog, 25 push ups and 25 crunches/sit ups
